Money spent on road to nowhere

Published on 13th March 2008 in Letters

Sir - I am astonished and disgusted that ERYC Highways Department have allocated and used taxpayers' money to re-tarmac almost half a mile of single-track road in West Cowick, a dead end road to nowhere, a road used by a minority to access a clay pigeon shooting range, farm tractors and don't forget the fly-tippers.

All this when the roads used by the majority, including High Street in West Cowick, are in such a poor state of repair. When we reported the state of High Street to the council we were told that there was no money to carry out repairs and were told to report the damage again after April.

All road users know how the bad the roads are, there are always articles and letters in your newspaper about the dangerous and poor state of the road surfaces in our area. It absolutely beggars belief that ERYC feels its acceptable and necessary to repair a dead end road to nowhere.
