Sir - Could I comment on the item last week about the forthcoming work in Howden Minster graveyard, during which the names on the graves will be catalogued? Your readers might not be aware that details of the Monumental Inscriptions are already available.

Howden Civic Society initiated a project with the East Yorkshire Family History Society to record all the Monumental Inscriptions and these are available in a two-volume publication which comes complete with map. All of the inscriptions have been cross checked against parish records wherever possible. The publication is priced at £5 and is available from Howden Civic Society.

Similar publications are also available for Barmby on the Marsh, Eastrington, Laxton and Wressle
