Dog owners should prevent pets fouling
Published on 21st February 2008 in Letters
Sir - There has been quite a lot of concerns and discussions recently at Goole Town Council meetings about dog fouling on our footpaths in the town and in the parks. In many cases the owner does not pick up the dog mess. Not only is it a disgrace that dog owners don't pick it up, people can slip on it. It is a very serious health hazard if a child falls and gets the stuff on their hands and even on clothing.
If a child - or an adult for that matter - accidentally gets some of the dog fouling on their hands and doesn't realise it they could have picked up a nasty parasite which affects the eyes, particularly in small children. This reminder isn't new. In the past many young children and even elderly people have caught it and many lost their sight.
At the park there is plenty of room for dogs to run if you use the outer hedges and the back hedge. Please do not let your dogs run about on the children's playground or the pitches
I go to the West Park and it concerns me when I see people - and particularly families - letting their dogs run around on the football pitch, in many cases letting their dog do their 'poo' on the football pitch. And please avoid letting the dogs go anywhere near the very small playground area for our children - they are the most vulnerable.
