Benefactor paid off council tax

Published on 7th February 2008 in Letters

Sir - Someone has decided to pay Mr Staniforth's outstanding council tax and thus bring to an end his protest for this year. Perhaps this very kind gentleman would like to do the same for the rest of the people who have failed to pay. At the end of the year 2006/2007 that figure stood at £2,056.000 (Government figures) in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Why didn't Walter's benefactor chose one of these thousands of people? Why him, and not others in court that day? The only conclusion I can draw from this is that because he was protesting.

Be assured that Walter will be back again next year. Could become expensive for his benefactor, should others make the decision to join him.
