Sunday pharmacy urgently needed
Published on 17th January 2008 in Letters
Sir - I am not a Tesco fan - I long for some real competition to come to our town - and I have requested, personally, this a few times to Asda!
However, I would love Tesco to open a pharmacy as it is absolutely ridiculous that Goole is served so poorly at weekends.
On October 20 I had an appointment with the out-of-hours doctor of Goole at Goole Hospital at 4pm and was kept waiting for a long time.
Folks who arrived long after me were called through prior to me. The GP finally arrived for surgery well after 5pm; he had been in York. I was astounded - and annoyed!
I left at 5.45pm after being quickly seen but despite me urgently needing prescription medication I was unable to get it locally. Sadly, it coincided with the last Saturday evening (meal time) of my then terminally-ill husband's life, so it was utterly regrettable.
I would have been able to get the prescription elsewhere - but I had already been away from home too long.
Goole desperately needs, in my opinion, a 24-hour pharmacy.
I was astounded to read a notice in Boots window (prior to Christmas) stating the laws on opening by local chemists on Christmas Day, Boxing Day etc - yet neither they, nor any other, opens on Sundays. Why is there therefore a need to open on such Bank Holidays? It doesn't add up at all.
Sundays require a pharmacy locally - I would imagine more than at Bank Holiday or Christmas time.
Councillors, we need (at least) a Sunday pharmacy in Goole, please.

Town needs good jobs
Sir - When it was first announced that work was to begin on the M62 trading estate, it was seen as a triumph and a chance of up to 6,000 new jobs.
