Sir - In 1929 I was a seven-year-old attending Airmyn School. Along with other pupils we went to see the opening ceremony for the new Boothferry Bridge. When the tape had been cut we all walked over the bridge and back again; it was a lovely April afternoon.

The construction photo in the Goole Times Memory Lane feature on Friday, December 28 is very interesting as it shows my dad, Tom Barker, driving the steam crane, lifting one end of the girder with his crane jib.

I well remember going with him on Sunday mornings to stoke the boiler and fire to make sure plenty of steam was available for Monday morning. Dad travelled to various parts of England with the Cleveland Bridge Company, building bridges and aerodromes.
