Time to reflect on past years
Published on 28th December 2007 in Letters
Sir - Having read 'Damien Walshe's' letter (Readers' Page, December 20) and in this season of goodwill to all men, women and councils, I do feel the need to reflect on the problems that GAG has caused to ERYC over the past three years.
Here we are, just a bunch of tenants, homeowners, "greedy landlords" - oh, and the "speculative developer" - up against one of the largest if not the largest unitary body in the country, who have loads and loads of very highly paid legal help on tap.
For three years we have been the thorn in the side, stopping them from bulldozing our properties (what a liberty!), and if we "those greedy landlords" would just hand our properties over as Sally Burns asked us to on Look North (December 11) why, they could start knocking them down next week.
The fact that they don't have any plans for what they want to build there, or that there are 16,500 on the East Yorkshire Housing List, or that Goole itself has a chronic housing shortage shouldn't really interfere with the spirit of giving at this time of year, should it?
