Sir - I write in support of the poor, maligned Ms Sally Burns, who last week again fended off attacks from landlords and the local community of Shuffleton. One only had to look at the strain upon her face and tight-lipped responses on the television to see how annoying you folk are becoming. How many more times do you landlords and residents of Shuffleton need telling that this is the best thing since sliced bread?

Of course, the project - err... that's when Ms Burns thinks of something to put planning in for - is on target, it was always going to take up to ten years. Also, it is on budget because East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) has deep pockets and can always pass costs on to you whingeing ratepayers.

So come on, leave Ms Burns and her team alone and let them have a restful Christmas, because what you forget is that good project managers work in the private sector for very high salaries and achieve targets, whereas ERYC appears to me to pay large salaries for paper-pushing and ignoring the community and, after three years, still has no project to manage.

Go on, landlords, hand your keys in and stop making Ms Burns look silly.
