Blot on the landscape?

Published on 22nd November 2007 in Letters

Sir - How can Keith Wilkinson (Readers' Page, October 4)describe wind turbines as 'monstrous eyesores'? I regularly holiday in Cornwall, which has several wind farms in what I consider to be the most beautiful and tranquil countryside in England. These turbines do not spoil the landscape at all, and there is no doubt that windfarms are the way forward. They will not solve our energy problems alone but, together with other ideas, they will make a very useful contribution.

I would rather see hundreds of these turbines in our area than one coal-fired power station on our doorstep. I would like to suggest to Keith that he steers his objections towards stopping the use of fossil fuels and support renewable energy sources instead.
