Thanks from Heritage Weekend team

Sir - May I, through your readers' page, thank everyone who supported us at our recent event. the Howden Heritage Weekend? Over the two days, we probably had over 1500 visitors, with Saturday being particularly busy.
A great deal of hard work was needed to stage the event and I would like to thank the theme coordinators Bernard Nield, Lorraine Vant, Charlotte Hursey, Elaine Ward and Ken Deacon for their interesting and varied displays.
Particular mention must be made with regard to the Crossley Car which, with the support of the Civic Society and the grant from Awards for All, enabled Charlotte to persuade Beaulieu to part with their precious exhibit for a memorable day!
Unfortunately, we were not so lucky with our planned balloon flights on Sunday, but the wind was too strong for safety and our balloonists could have finished up over the mouth of the estuary; thank you to Duncan Lambert from Rix Petrol for all his efforts.
On Sunday, the Press Association kindly supported us by opening the Bishop's Manor and their guides were taken 'down memory lane' as visitors recalled past wedding receptions held there. The front lawn of the Bishop's Manor was the scene of an impressive flotilla of model boats displayed by Goole Model Boat Club, with the opportunity to have a go at navigating one of the models.
Our weekend of events came to a close with a recital in the Minster of light-hearted music with a theme of transport which was greatly appreciated. So, thank you once more to everyone, including all the helpers who gave their time to man the stalls and oversee the exhibits, but not least our ladies from the WI, who always do such a marvellous job keeping us going with refreshments. Thank you ladies!
