Goole to Hook path wanted

Published on 3rd May 2007 in Letters

Sir,

I am writing in response to an article printed in last week's issue regarding the new footpath linking Thorntree Lane in Goole to Garth Lane in Hook.

I strongly disagree with the remark made by Mr Michael Collier, a resident of Garth Lane, that "Young mothers with pushchairs and/or young children will rarely, if at all make that long walk". I wonder on what basis he has made that assumption, which is all it is.

I myself am a mother of children at Hook school and live in Goole, close to Thorntree Lane, and am thrilled to see this link taking place as it will now give myself and my children the option of either walking or cycling to school. At present the ony safe way of getting the children there is by car which is neither healthy, environmentally friendly or helpful to a serious parking problem that occurs down Garth Lane every morning and evening.

I have attempted to walk them and cycle them down Westfield Banks, which after only doing both the once, I would never attempt again due to the speed of the vehicles. I would have hoped that the residents of this area would have welcomed such an option that could hopefully reduce the amount of vehicular traffic they have every day in their street instead of just thinking that bad will come of it.

Mrs Walker,

Goole
