Pleased with hotel
Published on 19th April 2007 in Letters
Sir - On behalf of the Yorkshire Ex-Service Association in Gilberdyke, I was very disappointed to learn that Mr David Metcalf and his wife had lost their holiday at the Duke of Gordon Hotel in Kingussie, Scotland, booked through Cairngorm Travel, which owns the hotel.
Apparently the Norovirus disease, which is airborne, is very prevalent in Scotland in colder weather and many hotels have this problem. At least Mr and Mrs Metcalf were informed, if only 18 hours before departure, that part of the hotel had been closed off and that their rooms were in this area. They were offered a complete refund, or a more expensive holiday later on in the year.
Our association took 56 members, most of whom were over 70 years old, to the Duke of Gordon Hotel in November last year on a 'Tinsel and Turkey' holiday. We had a lovely time - the food was good, the hotel was clean, and the entertainment was good. But one member, on the eve of our departure home, contracted the disease. The hotel kept her and her friend for two days free of charge, until she was well enough to return home; they could not have been more helpful.
We have already booked our 'Tinsel and Turkey' holiday again for this year. Thank you to all at Cairngorm Travel for a lovely holiday.
