Save the stage

Published on 19th April 2007 in Letters

Sir - How sad and sorry I was to hear that the G.A.O.D.S. may have to be disbanded because the stage is being taken out of the Vermuyden School to make room for changes to the school.

Now, come on, you can't tell me that the planners and architects can't work round the stage - or is it the powers that be that won't let them? I agree with Jean Williams, it's totally disastrous and the school should be at the service of the community.

Also not forgetting that the G.A.O.D.S. put a big proportion of money towards the seating in the hall of the school. What will happen to them? Will they be put on the rubbish pile like a lot more things?

If, as you say, the new hall is going to be one-third larger then, as far as I can see, there will be room for a new stage to be built large enough to hold a cast of 80 plus. Come on, you people of Goole and surrounding areas that have supported Doreen Chapel (M.B.E.) at her shows in the past, think of all the pleasure and enjoyment she and all the cast have given you over God knows how many years.

Isn't it time everyone gave something back? Give her your support, she needs it now. If you want to see the shows continue, support her in any way you can. There isn't much in Goole to look forward to and for some people these shows are the highlight of the year for them. Don't let us lose the shows and save the stage.
