Town needs new supermarket

Published on 29th March 2007 in Letters

Sir - After reading about the supermarket in Howden (Goole Times, March 22) it seems that what is being said now is that the design is not in keeping with the historic town. Well, whatever the design, it cannot be more obnoxious than the PA Listings building. That building is not in keeping with our historic town and should never have been allowed to have been built.

Haulage contractors have run from the former Geodis site for many years and have had no problems with the roads.

The problem came when PA came and its employees started to park in every possible place in the town and streets adjoining. No adequate parking was provided for when the PA development was approved. It should have been, and this to me was a bad planning decision.

The supermarket will be a good thing for the town and surrounding area. There is room for the supermarket and the local traders. So come on, ERYC, get yourselves into top gear and get this passed and let work begin.
