Labour group disowns Kester's views
Published on 1st February 2007 in Letters
Sir - In response to Goole Town Councillor Kester Dean's comments regarding the Centreport proposals (Goole Times, January 18) and on behalf of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Labour Group, I would like to clarify that Cllr Dean's opinions do not reflect our views.
The Centreport project is a vital and positive development that will bring untold benefits to not just Goole, but also the wider area. Alongside providing 5,000 jobs, it will give a major boost to the regeneration of whole area, with people from not just Goole itself, but also the wider rural community benefitting through the sustainable employment opportunities it will bring.
There will be new jobs available for people of all ages with a whole variety of skills, qualifications and experience. New businesses will be developed, therefore ploughing money directly back into the local economy. It will also kick-start other regeneration projects and will ensure the future vitality of the area.
For Cllr Dean to do nothing but criticise the positive social, economic and employment benefits the Centreport project will bring, shows a clear lack of understanding for everything many people have tried so hard to achieve. The East Riding of Yorkshire Labour Group has worked with the rest of the authority to make this project a viable reality and strongly believes that this project will be the making of Goole. Thanks must also go to Ian Cawsey, MP, who has unstintingly fought for this scheme.
Any comments regarding lack of drainage are purely short-sighted, as any developer will have a clear and practical understanding of any such issues and how to address them.
I would urge all residents to support the Centreport project and view its development as one of the most important and needed regeneration schemes that the East Riding will ever see.
Terry Allison (Cllr)

of Yorkshire Labour Group)
