Poor return for our money
Published on 25th January 2007 in Letters
Sir - I have recently read there is to be a 3.5 per cent increase in council tax. This is extremely unfair as Goole residents already pay more than any other area in the East Riding.
What do we get for our money? Well, Goole is a fly-tipper's paradise: our streets are covered with dog muck and litter, our small parks are not maintained, covered in broken glass and quite frankly a hazard for our children; many pavements and roads are in poor condition; we have some of the poorest achieving schools; this town really has nothing to offer its residents and I think it's just not on.
I really would like to know what my money is being spent on. From what I am aware it is spent on seaside towns such as Bridlington. Our town needs looking after. Our residents should be able to feel proud of Goole instead of disgusted.
Can anyone from our council explain why Goole is not invested in? More likely they may read this letter and all others of a similar nature and simply ignore them, whilst collecting their hefty wage packets. As for the latest, the proposed £100, 000 spent on the cemetery - no disrespect to the departed, but should we not concentrate on the living and younger generations first?
Come on, residents, if you agree and have any other views, please take ten minutes to write. Alone we are silent, together our voice may be heard.
