'Big Brother' Tesco misses real crimes
Published on 14th December 2006 in Letters
Sir - While reading the Goole Times I came across the article regarding car parking at Tesco.
I, too, received a warning letter some months ago saying I had been parked there for several hours. I phoned Customer Services and said there was no way I ever park there for more than half an hour. They asked for my clubcard number and checked on their computer and found I had made two visits that day; they even told me how much I had spent and what I had bought on each occasion.
I was amazed that everything was linked to a master computer in Scotland, which is where I phoned. I was somewhat shocked to realise Big Brother was watching my every move. I was timed in and out of the car park by cameras, but obviously one of the exit cameras was not working.
I eventually received a letter of apology from Tesco - but how many people do not query their warning letter or do not have a clubcard?
Why cannot the same cameras be used to keep an eye on the hooligans who congregate in the car park at night? My innocent two entries and one exit were being watched hundreds of miles away in Scotland.
