Wishbone Ash to make rockin' return

Published on 30th November 2006 in Ents

A visit by a new version of Wishbone Ash makes for a rockin' start to the Shire Hall's pre-Christmas programme.

One of Howden Live's highlights of the year, Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash will take to the stage next Friday, December 8.

Martin is no stranger to the Shire Hall after three visits with The Blue Bishops, and his return is eagerly awaited.

With millions of album sales and concert attendances worldwide, Wishbone Ash's status as one of the most enduring and best loved British rock acts is assured, while the band's innovative twin-guitar hallmark has influenced numerous successful rock acts over the years.

Fronted by the founding member, lead vocalist and key creative force of the original Wishbone Ash, Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash remains faithful to the original blueprint and, during its live concerts performs a wide variety of material from the band's classic album releases. These include songs which have rarely been performed live until now. Expect to hear staples such as 'Warrior,' 'Blowin' Free,' 'Blind Eye' and 'Living Proof', along with lesser-played gems such as 'Lifeline,' 'Front Page News,' 'Diamond Jack' and 'Silver Shoes.'

Classics from the vintage days

Martin describes working with his current band line-up of Keith Buck (guitar), Ray Hatfield (guitar) and Rob Hewins (drums) as "an extremely rewarding experience on both a musical and personal level, with a positive vibe not unlike the early days of Wishbone Ash.

"Collectively, we have had a great time revisiting many of the classics from the vintage days of Wishbone Ash, recreating the essence of many songs, some of which have hardly ever been performed live, and reminding us all of the diversity contained in the Wishbone Ash back catalogue. I am confident that we have compiled a show that will please all true Wishbone connoisseurs."

Previous shows have had fans saying the band "surpassed everyone's hopes and expectations... with just the right feel for Wishbone Ash music."

Tickets for the gig are £10 and available from Touchwood Homecare, 2 Market Place, Howden, telephone 01430 431535 Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm and 01430 431488 at all other times, and also from DT's Rockshop, 59 Pasture Road, Goole. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start and close at 8.15pm.
