New play for Hull Truck

Published on 23rd November 2006 in Ents

Hull's A and E department and the Prague's Charles Bridge are the locations for Hull Truck's new play, which promises to be a cracker in every sense of the word.

They're not two places you'd necessarily bring together but Truck veteran Rob Hurst says things are looking good for the Christmas production.

Christmas Crackers, written and directed by John Godber, takes a look at A and E through the eyes of a security guard, and also follows nurses Kath and Holly as they head for the 'city of 100 spires.'

But is it a real journey?

Rob, whose different roles include an ambulance driver, the security guard's friend, a taxi driver and a street entertainer (!), isn't giving anything away but says: "There's everything in it - it'll make you laugh and make you cry.

"It's nutty but there's dark elements and emotional qualities."

Truck regulars will be glad to know they'll be the usual references to local landmarks, as well as what Rob refers to as the "John [Godber] kind of humour."

Unleashed stars Rob Angell, Matthew Booth and Una McNulty, and Amy Thompson from Wrestling Mad, will join Rob.

The play opens on Thursday December 7 and runs until January 20. For tickets, call 01482 323638 or use Hull Truck's new online service, available at www.hulltruck.co.uk
