300 new homes plans delayed over drainage

Published on 18th December 2008 in News

Plans to build 300 new houses in Goole have been put on hold until a number of issues are dealt with.

Planning committee members voted unanimously last week that three developments near to Thorntree Lane in the northern part of the town cannot be approved until drainage and highway issues are addressed.

They also requested that the application be referred back to them for the final decision.

The committee was addressed by a spokesperson for residents in that area of town, who also outlined concerns about the road network, access to the site and surface-water drainage issues.

Three applications were put to the committee, two from Peter Ward Homes and one from three private developers, to build more than 300 houses on three different sites.

Goole Town Council recommended that the plans be refused due to the density of the housing proposed for the site, drainage issues and inadequate access to the proposed site.

Goole Town Councillor Jane Marsden said: "There are concerns about the Hook Drain - we have got to keep an eye on it without a doubt."

Cllr Malcolm Boatman suggested that the council reiterate to ERYC comments about the drains and access to the proposed sites, as well as traffic congestion on Pasture Road before the applications go back to the planning committee.

They have recommend that the plans be refused.
