"Can't Smile Withou You" at Hull's New Theatre - The musical.
"Can't Smile Without You" - surrounds the rise to fame of an English group whose lead singer, Tony Lowiman (Geddit?), not only sounds like, but physically is also a dead ringer for Barry Manilow, one of the greatest performers and songwriters to light up the world of modern pop music in the United States and Great Britain.
The production gives a huge wink and a nod to "Mamma Mia" in the way it has taken a light-hearted, romantic tale of young love - laced it liberally with some excellent and amusing performances by the cast - and linked the action with the huge range of Manilow music which never fails to prove very, very entertaining.
The whole effect was first class and thoroughly deserving of a wildly enthusiastic audience who quite rightly awarded the entertainers a standing performance at the close of a splendid evening.
This was a great experience. Even if Manilow normally leaves you cold, I promise you this musical will warm your heart. If you get the chance - go see it."
