Vikings will need to start quickly
Published on 14th August 2008 in Ents
In recent seasons, more noticeably since the Vikings won their place in the UniBond League, it has taken the side a couple of months to gel on the field.
This time around, and with a ten-point disadvantage to start with, any repeat of that this time around will leave them out of the race for promotion before the season has really got started.
So as well as seeking revenge for last term's 4-0 defeat at the Stan Brown Stadium, they could do with the perfect start to make an immediate hole in that points loss.
They travel to Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday, kick off 3pm, with one or two new faces but essentially the same players that fell apart in the last month of 2007-2008. They proved before that that there was enough talent in the side to have reached the play-offs.
Whether manager Nigel Danby has managed to rectify, or will be able to rectify the defensive frailties which made April such a disastrous month, time will tell.
After Kidsgrove on Saturday, the Vikings entertain relegated Lincoln United on Tuesday evening, kick off 7.45pm.
