Holiday craft fair at Cawood

A CELEBRATED fixture in the district's events calendar is hoping to jolt visitors out of the credit crunch gloom with a sparkling Bank Holiday bonanza.
Chairman of the Cawood Craft Festival, Dave Jones said: "Forget about joining long, boring queues with your children at theme parks and come along to the 26th festival to enjoy some unadulterated bank holiday fun."
Tommy Cannon, of Cannon and Ball fame, will be opening the proceedings at 10.30am on Saturday, August 23, which will continue daily until 5.30pm on Monday, August 25.
During the three days of the festival there will be music from the York RI Golden Rail Band, Wysiwyg performing, 60s, 70s and 80s classics, and the Longhawn Trio.
Displays include Classic British Motorbikes, a History of Cawood, a static steam display, a small living history display, art exhibitions, vintage tractors, a metal-detecting exhibition and much more.
Children can bounce away on the bouncy castle and slide and enjoy the popular steam train ride.
In addition, there is a Pimms and champagne bar in the vicarage gardens next to the music stage, where visitors can relax and refuel from a selection of refreshments stalls.
And, as usual, there will be a vast marquee filled with local arts and crafts, woodwork, glasswork, jewellery and gifts.
"With all of this to enjoy, we just know you won't be able to do anything but have fun during your time at the Cawood Craft Festival," added events director Richard Teal.
