Stately home brought to life by music

Published on 7th August 2008 in Ents

The Imperial Ice Stars visited Castle Howard last week where a sumptuous tented ice palace had been set up in the magnificent grounds.

To Tchaikovsky's glorious music, The Imperial Ice Stars told the classic love story of The Sleeping Beauty on Ice through sublime world-class ice dancing, including breathtaking high-speed throws, awe-inspiring aerial gymnastics, stilt skating, fire effects and their performance specialty of incredible lifts and lift sequences, unrivalled throughout the ice skating world, as part of their unique style of theatre on ice.

The choreography suited Tchaikovsky's music perfectly, treating the audience to some dazzling moves with numerous lifts, twists and turns. The costumes were as memorable as the skaters graceful movements, colourful and sparkling against the detailed backdrops.

The aerial dancing and stilt skates were particular highlights, daring and completely faultless performances.

Starring Olympic, European, national and world championship skaters, the 23-strong cast glide through this much loved story with grace and athleticism.

The Tented Ice Palace itself was the ultimate in luxury, with reserved seating cushioned for comfort, bespoke chandeliers and carpeted throughout. There was even a spacious fully-licensed Ice Bar within the marquee. The whole experience adds up to a great night out suitable for the whole family. You still have a chance to see these amazing dancers for yourself as they round up their tour.
