Tickets for the inaugural Howden Rockfest are selling like hot cakes, say organisers.

The festival, which features top cover bands, will be held at Howden Ashes this Saturday, June 14.

Jez Lee, manager of organisers Fake Festivals, said: "Howden Rockfest is one of our fastest-selling festivals to date. Perhaps it is the line-up we have on at this festival, as they are all top bands, or perhaps it is because it is something new to the area and people are coming along to support it.

"Whatever the reason, it looks like those who are coming will have a great time no matter what the weather, as it is inside a marquee on the playing field."

Jez said there would be some "very special guests" coming to the Rockfest, but that they would only be revealed to festival-goers on the day.

"I suggest people bring their cameras for a photo with a famous face," he added tantalisingly.

The festival, which is sponsored by E-buyer, will feature top tribute bands covering songs by the Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Greenday. Local bands will also be showcased.

The bands will be playing inside a marquee on the Ashes playing field. The music starts at 1pm and finishes about 11.30pm.

There will be a licensed bar inside the marquee, with food stands. Outside the marquee people will be able to enjoy their drinks in a fenced and secured garden area.

The Rockfest - the third in an eight-date tour organised by Owston Ferry-based Fake Festivals - will be filmed for a DVD to promote similar festivals .

The three main tribute bands at Rockfest are regulars on the Fake Festival tour.

One of them will be Coldplace - a Coldplay cover band - whose lead singer Shane Crofts said: "Howden Rockfest will be our third Fake Festival this year and, if it is half as good as the previous two festivals we have played, people will be in for a great time.

"We have been practising the new Coldplay tracks and will be perfoming them at the festival - we can't wait."

There are still tickets left for the Rockfest. They are £15 each for over 16-years, and £12 for 7-to-15-year-olds. Children under the age of six get in free when accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are available from the Shire Hall at 11 Market Place, Howden, and also from Chappelow's Newsagents at 6 High Street, Howden.

They can also be bought using credit card from: www.fakefestivals.co.uk, or by ringing: 0800 652 2852.

Shane Crofts, lead singer with Coldpace, will be appearing on stage. (12-06-83 SU)
