Published on 8th May 2008 in Ents
The final heat in Selby Town Hall's annual sell-out battle of the bands takes place on Friday, May 16, with five groups battling it out to join Sounds And Siren and The 4 Kicks in the final.
The winners of the summer showdown will go on to perform at the Family Fun Day outdoor concert on June 15, as well as representing the Selby area in a North Yorkshire wide competition.
Solitude, Hippy Van, Manticor, Recruitment 46 and Kasima will all be looking for a top two placing and the chance to have their name etched on the coveted trophy.
Previous winners include White Lodge, Stereotyped and No Drinks on the Dancefloor, who have since gone on to support, respectively, The Pigeon Detectives, The Wombats and Reverend And The Makers.
The event forms part of the Town Hall's series of monthly band shows for under 20s which give young music fans the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment in a safe, alcohol free environment staffed by youth workers and door security.ÂÂ
With tickets for all shows set at just £2 to ensure that nobody is priced out, a capacity crowd is all but guaranteed.
Chris Jones, Town Council arts officer, said: "The quality of the first heat was absolutely astounding.
"It's just brilliant to see so many young music fans picking up instruments and starting bands.
"The bar is raised every year in terms of both the standard of the acts and the response of the audience with a really lively sell out crowd urging on all the performers.
"The second heat has a lot to live up to, but it features some superb musicians and I'm confident they will step up to the challenge."
Tickets are on sale now from Selby Town Council abd are priced at £2 in advance.
