Hello, musical hit!

Published on 7th February 2008 in Ents

The winner of ten Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hello, Dolly! returns to the stage after twenty years.

Starring Anita Dobson and Darren Day, this spectacular production arrives at Hull New Theatre on Monday, February 18 for one week only.

"And what do you do for a living, Mrs Levi?" asks Ambrose Kemper in the first scene of this hit musical comedy. "Some people paint, some sew…I meddle," replies Dolly.

And we are off on a whirlwind race around New York at the turn of the twentieth century as we follow the adventures of America's most beloved matchmaker. Featuring a star-studded West End cast, including Darren Day as loveable Cornelius Hackl, Hello, Dolly! is full of memorable songs including Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Ribbons Down My Back, Before the Parade Passes By, Hello, Dolly!, It Only Takes a Moment and So Long, Dearie.

Hello, Dolly! stormed the Broadway stage for 2,844 performances and played for nearly three years in the West End; the show not only received ten Tony Awards but a New York Drama Critics Circle Award for a Musical, two Outer Critics Circle Awards and a Drama Desk Award.

The musical was made into a film in 1969 featuring Barbra Streisand and was nominated for seven Academy Awards. Now it's back where it belongs, with a company of over forty and a live orchestra. Tickets for Hello Dolly! range from £10.50 to £27.50 and can be purchased from the Hull City Council Booking Office at Hull City Hall.
