Working up a storm in Hull

A bout of stormy weather is predicted for Hull Truck Theatre from next week as a drama about an East Yorkshire lifeboat crew comes to the city.

Dave Windass' production of On A Shout will follow the lives of crews past and present at 'The Point', a place at the end of the world where crashing waves, Force-Ten gales and sinking boats are enough to keep the East Yorkshire lifeboat crew occupied 24/7.

On board is coxswain George (played by Edward Peel) and his colleagues cocky Cooky (Richard Standing), Portuguese (David Barrass), studious Dobbo (Matthew Stathers) and their first female member Jo (Laura Doddington), who the lads believe is doing a man's job.

The action, directed by Gareth Tudor Price, follows the brave crew on 'shouts', but also looks deeper at the effects of life at sea, the friendships formed, and the lives lost.

As On A Shout tackles local subject matter, it is expected to be a storming hit with Hull Truck audiences and is even being supported by the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

On A Shout's launch coincides with the charity's main fundraising event of the year, SOS Day, and Hull Truck will be supporting the charity with displays and collection boxes.

On A Shout runs at Hull Truck Theatre from Thursday, January 24 until Saturday, February 16.
