Jim Moray will be performing at the Shire Hall on Saturday, November 10, with support from The Nuemes.
Jim Moray is a 24-year-old singer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer who has created startlingly contemporary recordings of England's traditional songs which have been described as the most sophisticated development in folk music for 30 years.
Since graduating from the Birmingham Conservatoire in summer 2003, Jim Moray has caused a revolution in the folk world with the release of the album Sweet England.
In February, 2004 at the Radio 2 Folk Awards, in an unprecedented move for a previously unknown artist, he was presented with the BBC Radio 2 album of the year award 2004 for Sweet England as well as the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award 2004 for the best newcomer.
The Neumes are a five-piece band who play a unique fusion of jazz, folk and rock. Fronted by three sisters, Emily, Charlotte and Eleanor, the band has been playing together for ten years.
The Neumes have cross-generational appeal that has led to sell-out gigs at The Gate theatre, Goole, and gigs across Yorkshire at such venues as Fibbers, the Barbican in York, Howden Shire Hall and Cherry Burton Arts Centre.
They have also appeared on BBC Radio Humberside, and were interviewed by John Peel for BBC Radio 4.
Tickets are £8 and are available from Touchwood Homecare, 2 Market Place, Howden (01430 431535) and DT's Rockshop, Pasture Road, Goole (01405 767282).
You can also buy them online via www.howden-live.com at Dig Yorkshire.
