Region's art work to go on show
A Goole-based artist is one of the hidden talents who will reveal himself at an open studios event this month.
Artist and photographer Daryl Thompson has just finished his latest work, 'access deck', which allows pram and wheelchair visitors to enter his Goole studio to view his acrylic-on-canvas art works. The pieces are inspired by photographs of sunrise and sunsets over the fields towards Hook, behind his home in Mayfield.
Daryl is one of 52 artists in the East Riding who will open their studios to the public over the weekends of October 6 and 7, and 13 and 14.
As well as Daryl's 'access deck', visitors will be able to see many other unusual places and spaces that artists use to create their work, and from which they draw inspiration. There are garden sheds, a garage and the lighthouse at Spurn peninsula, and the work varies from potters to painters, jewellers to textile artists and many more creative practices.
A spokesperson for East Riding Open Studios II (EROS), which is organised by artists Carlo Verda and Anna Kirk-Smith, said: "The Open Studios event is the opportunity for people to see how and where the artists' work is made and talk informally to the artists themselves about their inspirations and techniques."
It is a chance to purchase work directly from the artist, or commission a piece which you will then know how and where it is made, and by whom. One doesn't very often get the chance to do that!"
It is the second year that EROS will run - its success last year has ensured continued financial backing from the Arts Council Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Look out for signs to the studios, including Daryl's, or go to www.eastridingopenstudios. co.uk for more information.
