Dancing in the town

Howden Live's first 'double whammy' of the season arrives at the Shire Hall on Friday October 12.
The Springsteen Experience, which is part on an ongoing series of benefit events for local organisations, is raising funds for the 'Rock Challenge' at Howden Senior School.
The aim of the band is to perform the music of Springsteen with passion and commitment, and just as important, with the same sense of fun Bruce himself puts into his shows.
Although not pretending to be Springsteen and the E-Streeters (there can be only one!), the band take elements from all areas of a Springsteen show, namely the sound, lights, presentation and spirit, to get as close to the real thing as possible. Covering all areas of The Boss' music, the Springsteen Experience continually aims to improve and add to the music they perform, so as to ensure as wide a spectrum of songs as possible for the fans' enjoyment.
The money raised will help Howden School's 'Rock Challenge', which this year is based around Romeo and Juliet. The students' modern day recreation of Romeo and Juliet relives the story through the power of music and dance, incorporating many contrasting styles of dance such as hip hop, lindy hop, disco and classic.
Tickets for the Springsteen Experience are £10 and available from Goods and Chattels, Market Place, Howden on 01430 432257, and the Shire Hall office on 01430 432510.
Meanwhile, on Saturday October 13, Sleeping Dogz, featuring Wild Willy Barrett, makes a welcome return. This unique trio lives on boats on the Grand Union canal, an environment which can't help but inspire and stimulate their creativity.
Their versatility is reflected in the number of instruments played between them. For those of you not already familiar with Barrett's unique performance style, come prepared to be both entertained and inspired by the Dogz' repertoire of original material and arrangements.
There is also a first solo outing this year at the Shire Hall in support for one Martyn Barker. "Perhaps he needs no introduction? We'll give him one anyway," said a spokesperson.
Tickets are £8 and are available from: Touchwood Homecare, 2 Market Place, Howden, on 01430 431535, or at DT's Rockshop, 59 Pasture Road, Goole on 01405 767282
