New season
Published on 20th September 2007 in Ents
Howden Live's autumn season begins with a bang next weekend when a performer who brought the world some of its favourite power-pop songs comes to town.
Chris Difford, guitarist and vocalist in Squeeze, helped write hits such as Up the Junction, Another Nail in My Coffin, Tempted, Black Coffee in Bed, Cool for Cats, If it's More and many more.
Currently on a Squeeze tour with Melvin Duffy and Dorie Jackson, Chris will be at the Shire Hall on Saturday September 29. After 13 albums and many top 20 hits, 29 American tours, 30 UK tours and various trips around the globe, Chris decided to stop the merry-go-round and test the waters. His shows consist of Squeeze favourites and new songs - along the way he has written with the likes of Elton John, Trilok Gurtu, Marti Pellow, Lamont Dozier, Willie Mitchell to name but a few.
The night also sees a welcome return for Adrian Byron Burns, who takes the support slot. Described by The Observer as "the cutting edge of acoustic performers", he will be playing new material as well as some of the old favourites such as Hendrixology.
Paul Jones, from the BBC's R and B show, has said: "On this form, Adrian Byron Burns could well be mentioned in the same breath as Keb 'Mo, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Eric Bibb."
A spokesperson for Howden live said: "All in all, a fantastic start to what promises to be one of Howden Live's best ever seasons!"
Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Tickets are £12.50 and are available from Touchwood Homecare, 2 Market Place, Howden on 01430 431535 (9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday) and DT's Rockshop, 59 Pasture Road, Goole on 01405 767282.
