Win a meal for two at Joffco's
Published on 9th August 2007 in Ents
Caramelised red onion and four tortellini, swordfish steak foil parcel with Yorkshire feta cheese, chocolate and orange bavarois - are your tastebuds tingling yet?
These dishes are just some of the mouthwatering meals available at Holme upon Spalding Moor's best kept secret - Joffco's resturant.
And, if you're lucky enough to win our competition, you and a partner could enjoy them for nothing.
The Goole Times/Selby Post has teamed up with the renowned restaurant and its award winning chef to offer a three course meal for two.
Run by John Newlove and his partner Claire, the warm and welcoming eatery is a labour of love based on appreciation of good food and a commitment to using local ingredients wherever possible.
Yorkshire-born John, who overcame childhood deafness and dyslexia to succeed as a chef, prepares everything from scratch and changes the menu regularly according to season and local availability.
Before Joffco's, John worked at The Parsonage Country Hotel in Escrick, which was awarded one AA rosette during his time there as second chef and the coveted two AA rosettes while he was head chef. John specialises in desserts and hand-made chocolates, and, as more and more people are discovering, one often isn't enough.
Fallen chocolate souffle is enough to make you fall from any diet podium and rhubarb tart with a walnut and cinnamon crumble screams: "Eat me!" even before you smell it.
Housed as it is in a 300-year-old cottage, eating at Joffco's is also an experience in its own right.
Under Claire's interior design skills, the cottage has been extensively renovated to include a deli at the front. Two upstairs rooms, tastefully decorated, make it ideal for a romantic dinner or a private party and there's even a garden area for al fresco dining.
