Ever wondered what the Romans did for the area?

Why not find out at North Lincolnshire Museum, which is holding a Roman Holiday exhibition until Tuesday, September 18?

Local girl Rose Nicholson is Archaeology Assistant (Collections) for the museum and she has stepped back in time to produce a fantastic exhibition.

Rose was brought up in Gilberdyke and Blacktoft and now lives in Laxton.

After completing her degree in geography and archeology at the University of Liverpool, she went on to work for Hull and East Riding Museum before moving to North Lincolnshire Museum, where she has worked for four years.

The Roman Holiday exhibition is an exciting, hands-on event for all the family.

Visitors can find out what people wore, ate, did for fun and, most fascinatingly of all, how the Romans built an empire. In fact, an entire Roman town has been created.

Museum staff will help visitors make their own Roman pots, jewellery, large mosaic pictures of a chariot race and search for treasure with a metal detector. Vistors can also grind corn into flour by hand.

Rose said: "This exhibition has been open for two weeks now and is very interactive for all the family. It is proving very popular.

"There are objects from collections to view, you can dress up as a soldier or even sit on a Roman toilet."

The museum, on Oswald Road, Scunthorpe, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm and Sunday 1pm until 4pm. For more information call the museum on 01724 843533.
