Starlight shines at Hull theatre

It was full steam ahead as Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical Starlight Express raced into the Hull New Theatre last week.
With music by Webber and lyrics by the versatile Richard Stilgoe, the packed audience jumped on board for the ride of a lifetime and, through the provided 3D goggles, experienced trains colliding with obstacles, as well as shooting nuts, bolts, planks of wood and engines jumping out from the stage.
The scene is set as a little boy's collection of toy trains come to life after dark and Rusty, Electra, Greaseball, Nintendo and Poppa all compete to be the fastest train on the tracks.
Right from the opening curtain the show was full of action packed routines which had the theatregoers gasping for breath as the lights, sound and speed of the performance engulfed the whole of the theatre.
To find out for yourself which engine wins this dramatic race, you will have to make a date to see this outstanding spectacular, but with the magic ingredients of music, lights, costumes and unbelievable choreography, the visit will be one which leaves you open mouthed and desperate for more.
Starlight Express is at the Hull New Theatre until June 30, with tickets priced starting at £18.50 and rising to £35, so book your seat now by calling the box office on 01482 226655. - SD
