Gate goes global as temperatures rise

Published on 31st May 2007 in Ents

El verano viene - summer is coming.

And, at The Gate, it's coming with an international flavour.

This Saturday is a chance to sample some of the best Latin American rythms when acclaimed duo Mambo Jambo returns.

This time, however, they're two and a half times as big and are coming as the Quinteto Mambo Jambo.

Bass and two percussionists complete the expanded line-up and allow for a display of hot latin dancefloor sounds such as salsa, merengue and samba.

Authentic sounds

As bandleader and singer Peter Jack explains: "Dancers go crazy for these Latin rhythms because they're such fun to dance to, and it's not easy in this country to find people who can play them properly - we've been out to places like Cuba and Brazil and learned songs and styles from bands out there so hopefully we can give more than just a flavour."

Fresh from foreign shores

With a recent festival appearance in Borneo behind them, and fresh from a trip to a carnival in Brazil, the band will be raring to go.

The band will be at The Gate this Saturday (June 2) at 8pm - don't forget your dancing shoes.

Tickets are £7 or £5 for concessions and are available from Goole Town Council, or on the door.
