Rock star to the rescue

Rock star John Parr will play at Ulleskelf Village Hall to raise vital funds next Saturday (April 28).
No stranger to Yorkshire, Parr has rocked the crowds with bands Bitter Suite and Ponders End in the heyday of clubland.
John is a northern lad who made good when his song St Elmo's Fire, from the film of the same name, roared its way to the top of the American charts.
His last gig in the states was at New York's Madison Square Garden - but he is playing at Ulleskelf as part of his tour to help breathe new life into villages.
"I'm trying to breathe new life back into them, proving that they have a lot more potential than people think – they don't have to be just for the W.I., Yoga, or the odd 'family do'," he said. Tickets are £10 - call 01937 835196. There will be a licensed bar.

"Many villages in the UK are in decline," Mr Parr said.
"Take my own village - the Post Office has gone, the school, even the pub; all that remains is the village hall."I'm trying to breathe new life back into them, proving that they have a lot more potential than people think – they don't have to be just for the W.I., Yoga, or the odd 'family do'."These places have great scope but are sadly under-used. "At a time when a lot of people don't even know their neighbours, we're trying to bring them together – to talk and have a great time."John's one man show takes the audience on a humorous and inspirational journey, from his birthplace in a small mining town, to the heady heights of Hollywood, where he worked with icons of the film and music industry. John's work includes title tracks for the blockbuster movies Three Men and a Baby and Arnold Schwartzennager's The Running Man and tours with Tina Turner, Bryan Adams and Celine Dion.He will be in Ulleskelf (on the (B1223, near Sherburn in Elmet) on Saturday April 28.Tickets are £10 - call 01937 835196.
