Gifted duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham will be at the Shire Hall next Saturday.
Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, winners of the 2005 'Best Duo Award' at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, are playing at Howden Shire Hall next Saturday, April 28.
Fiddler Aly Bain and accordionist Phil Cunningham are two of the most celebrated musicians on the Scottish traditional scene.
The duo first worked together on a television series in 1988 and embarked on their first tour shortly after.
They were so well-received that they have been touring together ever since.
Aly began playing the fiddle at the age of 11 and in his early 20s he headed to mainland Scotland where he was hailed as an outstanding musician of the folk music revival.
Aly was awarded an MBE in 1994 in recognition of his services to music and then he was further honored in 1999, when he became a Doctor of Music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Phil Cunningham has taken the accordion from strength to strength, setting the standards by which many young players fix their sights today.
In 2002, he received an MBE for his contribution to Scottish music.
