Ashes to ashes, Bowie tribute band at Howden

Published on 15th March 2007 in Ents

Next Saturday, March 24 sees a Howden Town AFC presentation, in association with Howden Live, at the Shire Hall in Howden.

Raising funds for the junior football club in the year of the David Bowie's 60th birthday, the arrival of DAVEisBOWIE, a six-piece David Bowie tribute band who hail from East Yorkshire, should prove good entertainment for the Shire Hall.

Formerly 'Ashes2Ashes', a change of name this year coincided with the addition of new member Tim on keyboards.

He joined David (vocals), Ron (lead guitar), Ash (drums), Kevin (bass/vocals) and Richard (guitar/vocals), who had been touring the tribute circuit for many years, exciting Bowie fans from all over the north ofEngland, with classic renditions of Ziggy Stardust, Jean Genie, Let's Danceand China Girl, to name but a few.

A two and a half hour set, complete with costume changes, covers the Thin White Dukes' forty-year catalogue of unmistakable hits and some of the more obscure Bowie album tracks.

The band's most notable performance (when they were known as 'David Live') came when they were invited to play at Coronation Street's 40th birthday bash in Lancashire - a function attended by Prince Charles and several members of the cast of the long-running TV series, although the seasoned members of the band have many other connections to famous musicians and entertainers - the late Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) and Paul Kossoff (Free) , pop band 'Mud' and The Beautiful South - have all featured in the diaries of "DAVEisBOWIE" at some point.

If anyone has any energy after all that there is also the opportunity to shake your bootie afterwards with a lovely disco.

Tickets are £8 and are available from Touchwood Homecare Market Place Howden East Yorkshire. Tel 01430 431535 or from any AFC member.

This event continues Howden Live's latest initiative to support localorganisations in the presentation of, at the moment, musical events to help them to raise much needed funds.

This in the form of the loan of their infrastructure, PR contacts, website, ticket sale facilities and so on to try and help to maximise the success of any event.

A long-standing association with Wishful Thinking and The Cookridge Cancer Centre Appeal sees the arrival of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band on June 2.

The joint Infant and Junior School PTA's will benifit from the second appearance of Heart Of Glass, a Blondie tribute, on Friday July 6. Check out further Howden Live events at www.howden-live.com
