Blaize Theatre to present at the Gate
Published on 15th February 2007 in Ents
The story of a woman who ran away to join her lover, had 17 children and finally became a travelling player will be told at The Gate on Saturday (February 17).
Blaize Theatre Company present 'Once A Lady,' a play by Maureen Lawrence about Charlotte Deans and her journey through the north of England 200 years ago.
Struggling to survive and to entertain, Charlotte's life plays out against the distant rumble of war and world events, punctuated by original songs by Jim Woodland.
Blaize is a community arts company working primarily in rural areas; their work involves drama, dance, music, digital and visual arts. Most people will recognise the company name from their involvement in Goole's annual community bonfire event.
Ellen Thorpe, Blaize administrator, said: "Our work often focuses on new writing about rural issues such as foot and mouth disease, or explores diverse cultural and historical heritage.
"However, just as often, we aim simply to provide accessible family entertainment, and Once A Lady is no exception."
Tickets are £7 or £5 for concessions and are available from Goole Town Council or on thedoor. Or call the daytime box office on 01405 763652, the showtime box office on 01405 720219 (one hour before performance) or go to www.thegategoole.com (15-02-05 SU)
